Heidi Bumpus: Coach/Tournament Director/Team Coordinator/Big Sis Little Sis
Heidi Bumpus has been involved in volleyball for over 20 years as a camp director, tournament director, and coach. From 1995-2016 she coached at Dansville Schools at all levels, 7th grade through varsity. Heidi and Jodi McMillan were high school teammates and then coached together during Heidi’s tenure as the varsity coach. They also coached the 15U National team together in 2015.
Heidi began coaching club with Kevin McMillan with Big Bad Uglies (BBU) and then joined the Attack family after it was formed. She has coached various age groups at the club level 10U, 15U, 16U, and 17U. This year Heidi is assistant coach to Kevin McMillan for the Michigan State University Women’s Club Green Team.
Volleyball is a passion that Heidi shares with her athletes as well as a passion for learning something new every day. Heidi continues learning more about the sport through clinics, video, books, and working with other coaches. She holds membership in various organizations such as MIVCA (Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association), AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) and AAU. Heidi loves to teach her athletes not only the skills involved in the sport but the analytical side as well. Volleyball is not just a sport on the court but also a great facilitator of life lessons. Athletics teaches time management, problem solving, working through differences and working together toward a common goal. Athletics also help to develop lifelong friendships.
Heidi lives in Dansville with her husband Steve and their two children Travis and Dakota (Kota). Travis and Kota currently attend Lake Superior State University. When Heidi is not in the gym she enjoys photography, reading, fishing with her family, and watching her daughter show her horse.
Two mantras that we live and die by on the court: "Mistakes are going to happen. It is your response to the mistake that makes the difference” and "Compete for every point and the winning will take care of itself." But most importantly… have fun and love what you do.
